China Mobile Opens Regional Headquarters in London

In preparation for business expansion in the markets of Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, Chinese telecommunications operator China Mobile opened its regional headquarters in London on February 21, 2008.
The regional headquarters is projected to serve potential overseas Chinese clients. For its overseas business expansion, China Mobile expects to tap three segments in particular: the emerging markets, overseas Chinese seeking to maintain connection with their own country, and the short-term visiting market, comprising both business travelers and tourists. The company is also considering setting up a virtual mobile network in Europe.
China Mobile is the second Chinese telecommunications operator to establish its European headquarters in London, following a similar move by China Netcom in November 2007.
